Dependency Ratio

Also known as: old-age dependency ratio, support ratio

The ratio of the non-working-age population (typically under 15 and over 65) to the working-age population (15-64). A rising dependency ratio signals increasing pressure on social systems, healthcare, and pension funds. Japan leads globally with a dependency ratio exceeding 70%, and many developed nations are following similar trajectories.
